Unlike a vintage home that is often burdened with house renovation issues, one of the best aspects of moving into a new home is that it will be a trouble free experience. However, a new residential property can often be a little impersonal, depending upon the size, construction style and property’s floor plan.

A trend that was born in mid West America and has worked its way across the USA is the use of wrought iron inside the residence to infuse warmth, personality and appeal. Everyone used to choose real wood as a decorator accent material, but iron is a clever choice that is welcome in nearly every room in your new house.

Foyer. Beginning from the moment you enter your new house, you can use iron details that will visually adorn the entrance to your new residential property. Metal balusters on the formal staircase are a good starting point.

Living Room.  If you have a formal salon or living room, cast iron accents can still work to add a touch of the unanticipated and perhaps give the room a little more warmth, and a little less seriousness! Wrought iron or metal crown molding can be striking in a expansive room, or have a custom built fireplace screen made to match the other decorator accents in your living room.

Family or Great Room.  This family friendly gathering point of your home is a wonderful place to insert wrought iron décor pieces. As you may know, iron is hard wearing and sound so it can handle anything your kids or pets can subject it to. Wrought iron and solid wood tables are a beautiful yet easygoing concept for your family room. You can also introduce iron on or around your hand carved mantels or on any built-ins that may be present in the area. The knack is to make everything seem like it belongs together as a grouping. Depending upon the location of your family room, this might include wood stair parts or stair newel posts as well.

Kitchen and Bath.  Consider less obvious cast and wrought iron accents in these places, such as the hinges, handles and knobs on your kitchen and bath cabinets. If you are using metal trimmed baseboards or metal crown moulding, keep this theme going into the kitchen. Other decorator touches using black metal might include a modern pot rack or a grouping of ornamental metal track lighting above the bathroom vanity or kitchen island.

Inside or outside, formal or casual wherever you choose to include wrought iron in your house will be an interior design success. It is a material that works well with all other materials, antique and modern, wood, plastic, or glass. It is an affordable and strong way to add emotion to an otherwise uninspiring, new home.
